Security forces evacuated leaders and activists of National Citizen Party out of Gopalganj city after activists of Awami League and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League went on a rampage, attacking and setting fire to the rally venue of the NCP at Gopalganj Municipality Park and clashed with law enforcement agencies on Wednesday.

The NCP leaders left Gopalganj in an armoured personnel carrier of the army.

The NCP joint member secretary Mushfiq Us Salehin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they left the city at about 5:15pm with the protection of police and army.

After the Gopalganj rally, the party leaders are scheduled to attend rallies in Madaripur and Shariatpur districts as part of its ongoing countrywide programme marking the first anniversary of the July uprising.

‘We have left Gopalganj. … We are yet to decide about the next rallies,’ said Mushfiq.
