National Citizen Party on Friday expressed concern over the rising trend of offensive attacks targeting its female members in the media and on social platforms.
The party announced a series of measures to address the issue, including legal action against those responsible.
The decisions were made at the party’s 6th general meeting, held at its central office in Bangla Motor, Dhaka.
Following the meeting, NCP member secretary Akter Hossain briefed the media at a press conference, outlining the steps agreed upon to protect female members from harassment and character attacks.
He said the party would file formal complaints with the Press Council against media outlets that published false or defamatory reports about female leaders.
‘In addition, complaints will be submitted to relevant government offices against individuals who use Facebook and other online platforms to share abusive, obscene, or threatening content,’ he said.
Akter also said that the party decided to lodge complaints with relevant embassies and authorities abroad, in coordination with its diaspora supporters, to take action against individuals residing overseas who post offensive or harmful content about Bangladeshi women.
He said that such content often includes obscenities, fabricated stories, and character assassination, which undermine not only the individuals targeted but also the broader role of women in politics and society.
During the same meeting, the NCP also formally adopted its party constitution, which sets out the structure and governance framework of the organisation.
