A Chuadanga court on Sunday handed a youth a life sentence convicting him of rape of a schoolgirl.
The convict, Khairul Islam, 24, son of Sirajul Islam, was a resident of Buzrukgorgori Madarsa Para in Chuadanga municipality.
Chuadanga Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Syed Habibul Islam handed down the verdict in the presence of the accused.
According to the case statement, Habibul had a love affair with the victim who studied in a local college.
On the day of the incident on September 7, 2024, Habibul asked the victim, who was returning from her college, to come with him so that they would get married immediately.
But he then took her by a battery-run auto-rickshaw to a bamboo grove in Sumirdia area in the district and raped her
Later on, the victim鈥檚 father lodged a case with the Chuadanga police.
After reviewing the evidence, the tribunal found the allegations proven beyond doubt and sentenced Khairul to life term imprisonment along with a Tk 50,000 fine.
