The activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir allegedly clashed in front of Chattogram Government Commerce College on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at around 9:30am on the road adjacent to the college’s main gate in the Agrabad area of the city.

According to Islami Chhatra Shibir, three of their activists were injured in an alleged attack by Chhatra Dal members. Shibir claimed that an altercation began after they set up a help desk to assist candidates taking the National University admission tests.

Jahidul Alam Joy, publicity and media secretary of the Islami Chhatra Shibir Chattogram south unit, said that the help desk provided information to admission seekers and also offered drinking water for accompanying guardians.

‘A group of Chhatra Dal activists demanded removal of our help desk,’ Joy said, adding that as their volunteers refused to comply and continued their work, Chhatra Dal members attacked them, leaving three of our activists injured.

The injured Mozaherul Islam, Kamruzzaman Jibon, and Abdul Hadi Rahi are activists of Chhatra Shibir’s college unit. They were admitted to Chattogram Maa O Shishu Hospital in critical condition, Joy added.

Chattogram city Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal convener Saiful Alam denied Shibir’s allegations.

‘There was only a verbal argument as to who would stand where and activists of the two organisations later continued to assist the students together,’ Saiful said, adding that the allegation of an attack is baseless.

Double Mooring police officer-in-charge Kazi Rafiqul Islam said, ‘There is some verbal altercation between the groups, and the situation has now been brought remained under control.’

They have no reports of injuries, the OC added.
