
A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday placed popular folk singer and former Awami League lawmaker for Manikganj-2 Momtaz Begum on four-day remand in police custody over the allegation of killing Md Sagar in the capital鈥檚 Mirpur on July 19, 2024.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order following hearing as Mirpur Model Police Station sub-inspector Monirul Islam sought seven-day remand for interrogating Momtaz in the case, said court officials.
On Monday night, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch arrested Momtaz Begum in the capital鈥檚 Dhanmondi area and took her to the DB office at Mintoo Road at about 11:45pm.
According to the case statements, Md Sagar participated in the Student Movement Against Discrimination at Mirpur-10 Gol Chattar area on July 19 and he was shot in his chest at about 4:30pm.
Later, his mother found his body at a Mirpur hospital in the early hours of the following day he was shot.
On November 27, 2024, the victim鈥檚 mother Beauty Akhter, filed a case with Mirpur Model Police Station accusing 243 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina where Momtaz is the 49th named accused.
