The ousted Awami League activists on Sunday snatched a leader of the party from a vehicle of police in front of Mathurapur High School at Sujanagar in Pabna on Sunday.

The activists snatched Abdul Wahab, president of Sujanagar upazila AL, shouting the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’.


Eight police members were also injured in the incident.

A former chairman of Sujanagar upazila and municipal mayor, Abdul Wahab is a fugitive accused in a case filed in connection with the attack on students in the July-August mass uprising.

Police members and people of the area said that a team of Sujanagar police arrested Wahab when he came out of the Mathurapur School mosque adjacent to his house. 

People of the area surrounded the police vehicle and asked the police to release him. As the police did not release him, several hundred people gathered and forcibly snatched the accused from the police vehicle.

Pabna police superintendent Mortoza Ali Khan told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Abdul Wahab was accused in the attack on the Students’ Movement Against Discrimination.

‘He was arrested from Mathurapur School based on secret information. But several hundred people snatched him from the police vehicle.’

‘We will continue operation to arrest him,’ added the SP.
