Anamul Haque, Mahidul Islam, and Nayeem Hasan were dropped as the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday announced a 14-member squad for the forthcoming two-Test series against Ireland starting on November 11.

Top-order batter Mahmudul Hasan returned to the fold after missing out on the Sri Lanka series in June.

Opener Anamul, who made a comeback after a three-year hiatus during the home series against Zimbabwe, failed to meet the expectations against Sri Lanka, as he accumulated only 23 runs in four innings.

The 32-year-old got out for nought on two occasions in that series.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam, on the other hand, didn’t feature in any matches against Sri Lanka. He made his debut against South Africa in 2024, and that remained as his only appearance in the Tests so far.

Mahidul was named in the Bangladesh ‘A’ Team for the upcoming Asia Cup Rising Stars on the same day.

Nayeem’s exclusion, however, came as a surprise call from the selectors, as the off-spinner had a good outing during the Sri Lanka tour.

He took nine wickets in three innings, including a five-wicket haul, and was the joint highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in that tour.

The selectors kept uncapped left-arm spinner Hasan Murad along with the experienced duo of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

It was a clear indication that Nayeem wasn’t even considered as the third-best spinner in the team.

Khaled Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Ebadot Hossain are the four pacers in the squad.

The first Test will begin on November 11 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, while the second and final Test is scheduled to begin on November 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The second Test will be the 100th for Mushfiqur Rahim, given that he appears in the first. He will be the first Bangladesh player to reach the milestone.

Najmul Hossain Shanto would lead the side after he was reinstated as the Test captain recently.

The left-handed batter announced his resignation from the role after a 1-0 series defeat against Sri Lanka in June.

Squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Khaled Ahmed,

Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Murad.
