Expelled members won’t be able to renew party membership
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday alleged that educational institutions in the country, including major universities, have become heavily influenced by the Jamaat-e-Islami in recent months.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the allegation at a meeting and prayer session organised by the Diploma Engineers Association of Bangladesh at the National Press Club Auditorium in Dhaka.
The programme was organised to mark the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s 89th birth anniversary and for the early recovery of the party’s ailing chairperson, Khaleda Zia.
‘Today, a particular party has taken control of the health ministry and the education ministry. The country’s educational institutions are now influenced by Jamaat. This is a highly dangerous issue,’ Rizvi said.
The BNP leader alleged that Jamaat-minded people were put in charge of major universities including Dhaka University and Rajshahi University.
He said that a certain political party believed that the victory in the July-August uprising was only theirs and that the interim government was their government.
‘We used to call the 1/11 government an army-backed government. Now, many are saying that the interim government is backed by that particular party. This is being shown through various activities of the government,’ he said.
Rizvi questioned how the public administration secretary remained in office despite serious corruption allegations.
Addressing the inaugural session of distributing party membership renewal forms among the district and city units of the party at its central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan, Rizvi said that those who had been expelled from BNP would not be able to renew their party membership.
He said that they had sent strict instructions to their district units to prevent fascist Awami League elements’ intrusion into the BNP.
