
At least 10 people were injured as two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party clashed in the 24-Mile area under ​​Ahmedpur union in Aminpur police station of Sujanagar upazila of Pabna allegedly over extortion on Tuesday afternoon.
During the clash, traffic on the Dhaka-Pabna highway was stopped for about two hours.
On information, army personnel and police members reached the spot and brought the situation under control, police said.
Confirming the matter, Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Aminpur police, said, ‘The situation is currently calm. Additional police have been deployed in the area.’
According to local people, at around 4:00pm on Tuesday the two groups, both the groups supported by BNP leader Tuhin Molla of Ahmedpur union, began collecting extortion from wealthy people and various businesses in the area.
At one point, a dispute over extortion turned into a clash, they said.
