Visual artist Sadrul Rafi explores the theme of harmony in his fourth solo art exhibition, currently under way at Galerie Zoom, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi.
The two-week exhibition features 25 of Rafi’s drawings and paintings, inspired by both classical and contemporary artistic traditions.
The exhibition was inaugurated on October 17 by renowned visual artist Professor Shahjahan Ahmed Bikash.
Rafi’s artworks are characterised by strong, bold lines and intricate textures, with his canvases incorporating a diverse range of motifs, including themes of belief, science, technology, and cosmology.
His work bears clear influences from iconic European masters such as Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Sandro Botticelli, Claude Monet and Henry Moore.
At the same time, Rafi draws inspiration from celebrated Bangladeshi artists like S M Sultan, Zainul Abedin, Shafiuddin Ahmed and Shahabuddin Ahmed.
Among the works displayed is an ink-on-paper drawing titled Buffalo in a Peaceful Environment-1, which features a serene landscape at sunrise, complete with hills, rivers, forests, and clouds, while a buffalo nearly fills the canvas.
Another notable piece is an acrylic-on-canvas paper painting titled The Inspiration of Peace Everywhere, which symbolises healing from trauma and destruction by depicting the process of replacing scratches with flowers.
A white marker pen drawing on grey paper titled Symbol of Peace-1, inspired by Picasso, shows a decorative bird carrying a flower in its beak.
In addition, Rafi presents a cubism-inspired acrylic painting on canvas paper, The Lovely Buffalo-1, where a colourful buffalo mask is constructed using triangles, creating a striking geometric design.
The exhibition will remain open until October 29.
