A murder case was filed on Monday night after the police recovered the body of a Chittagong University student with severed tendons in the city.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner (Bandar) Mahmudul Hasan said that the victim’s father Shahidul Islam Khan filed the case with the Bandar police naming no accused.
Earlier on October 19 evening, the police recovered the body of Shamim Maksud Khan Joy, 26, a resident of the city’s Baropool area in Bandar.
His family is originally from Barishal.
He said that the police were investigating the incident considering both murder and suicide angles based on witness accounts and information from the family.
Eyewitnesses mentioned signs suggesting suicide, but the victim left his mobile phone at home before going out, which was also a significant point, the police said.
‘We are analysing the nature of the injuries and other evidence, including the family’s murder allegations,’ Mahmudul Hasan added.
He had recently enrolled in a master’s programme in computer engineering at Chittagong University after completing his bachelor’s degree in computer science and technology from the American International University Bangladesh in Dhaka.
According to the police, local people found Shamim severely injured in a bush near Sunset Point Beach and Resort in the afternoon alerted the police.
