Children living in Korail slum have depicted their everyday life and surroundings in a five-day group art exhibition titled ‘Desired Korail’ under way at Nook Dhaka at Banani in Dhaka.
Renowned artist Monirul Islam inaugurated the exhibition organised by Adda Collective on Friday.
The exhibition comprises more than a hundred paintings created during a residency programme titled ‘Enabling Structures’, which was held from October to December in 2024 at the Korail slum.
In the paintings, the children have explored their surroundings and envisioned the spaces they aspire to see.
The artworks show the everyday life of people, the landscape and water bodies of the Karail slum as well as a lot of flowers.
Riya Moni, Moyna, Lamia, Hima, Mitu, Mehedi, Shohoporan, Honufa, Riya, Jinia, Sania, Ritu, Fatema Jannat and others have participated in the exhibition, which aims at raising funds for future workshops in Korail, continuing the community-driven process of imagination, empowerment and resilience.
Besides, Nook Dhaka has hosted another exhibition comprising sustainable products organised by Banglar Pannya.
The exhibition features scarves, bags, and pouches, which were designed in Switzerland by Swiss designer Catharina Strebel and crafted by marginalised Bangladeshi women.
The exhibitions will end on Tuesday.
