
A 12-day group art exhibition titled ‘The Trendsetters’ celebrating the contemporary young artists of Bangladesh at Bhumi Gallery at Lalmatia in the capital Dhaka will end today.
The exhibition is showcasing 70 paintings of 10 visual artists.
Artists Anukul Chandra Majumder, Azmeer Hossain, Kamal Uddin, Sadek Ahmed, Kazi Sahid, Shohag Parvez, Abdullah Al Bashir, Kamruzzoha, Shahanoor Mamun, and Sourav Chowdhury are displaying their recent artworks depicting nature and urban lives.
Most of the artworks are created on paper with acrylic, charcoal and watercolours while some acrylic and mixed media paintings on canvas are also being displayed at the exhibition.
Anukul Chandra Majumder’s acrylic and charcoal on paper titled ‘Barshay Sabuj’ shows urban green with experimental abstraction while Kamal Uddin’s mixed media painting titled ‘Lost Tradition’ shows Old Dhaka’s heritage and Azmeer Hossain’s watercolour titled ‘Mindscape’ shows an imaginary space with various forms and layers.
Known as a printmaker artist, Sourav Chowdhury is displaying his acrylic painting titled ‘Eternal Memories’ that shows experimental expressions of time, human relation and memories through his iconic character owl.
Sadek Ahmed’s acrylic on paper titled ‘Morning Light’ shows beautiful lights entering the room while Kazi Sahid’s semi-abstract floral titled ‘Sunflower on Cloudy Days’ shows mysterious visions of sunflowers and Shohag Parvez’s landscape titled ‘Nature of Bangla’ depicts the green beauty of Bangladesh.
Abdullah Al Bashir’s urban-scape titled ‘Density’ shows unplanned urbanisation of the city while Kamruzzoha’s watercolour titled ‘Swamp Buffalo’ displays the serenity of water bodies of Bangladesh and Shahanoor Mamun’s watercolour titled ‘Rhythmic Monsoon’ shows urban rainy season.
‘These 10 artists have become sources of inspiration, not only for their peers but especially for the younger generation of art students and emerging creators across Bangladesh,’ curator of the Bhumi Gallery Saifur Rahmann Lenin said, adding that their practice, commitment to evolving their language, and consistent presence in national and international platforms reflected their dedication.
