The July mass uprising ousted the authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.
In the capital Dhaka, the cultural affairs ministry, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladeshi Charushilpi Sangsad, Dhaka University and others organised different programmes on Tuesday.
The cultural affairs ministry organised a day-long cultural event at Manik Mia Avenue.
Beginning at 12:00pm, the event comprised musical performances, drone shows and documentary film screening.
Musical troupes, including Shunno, Artcell, Souls, Warfaze, Chittagong Hip Hop Hood, Saimum Shilpighosthi and Kolarob Shilpi Gosthi rendered their popular songs at the event while renowned singers, including Farzana Wahid Shayan, Shezan, Lutfor Rahman, Nahid Hasan, Tashfee, Ethun Babu and Moushumi performed at the event.
A huge number people attended the event braving rain. They chanted different slogans of the July uprising and popular songs related to the mass uprising.
Bangladeshi Charushilpi Sangsad organised a sculpture rally at the Dhaka University campus. They carried five sculptures made with bamboo and newspaper, which depicted the tortures and killings by the ousted fascist regime.
Renowned artist Abdus Sattar said that artists must work for the mass people and these sculptures reminded all of the people’s sacrifices in the mass uprising.
‘We have organised this event to respect the memories of the July martyrs, survivors and people who suffered during the regime,’ Sattar said, adding that the people of Bangladesh always loved to see artworks carrying their aspirations instead of flattering any political party or the government.
Artist Syed Mohammed Ali Pappu said that during the uprising artists expressed their solidarity with the protesters and actively participated in it, but due to instability in the law and order situation in the country they now observed the day with a minimal arrangement.
‘A lot of people were killed during the uprising and many of them are still under treatment. So we have observed the day as victory and grief,’ said Pappu, adding that the people needed a national election to improve the situation.Â
Dhaka University organised a musical concert near the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial sculpture area where the cultural troupes of the university and renowned band troupes performed.
