Cultural activists on Saturday expressed concern over national security that arose from controversial moves by the interim government at a view-exchange meeting organised by the Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya.  Â
They also said that instead of creating a democratic environment for national elections, improving law and order of the country and holding trial of July killings, the interim government showed their interest in sensitive issues including giving humanitarian channel to Rakhine in Myanmar, leasing’s New Mooring Terminal in Chattogram Port to a foreign company, offering Qatar to establish defence industries and allowing Starlink to run their internet business in Bangladesh. Â
Members of different cultural organisations including Bibartan Sangskritik Kendra, Bangladesh Udichi Shipligoshthi, Gono Sanskriti Kendra, Charon Sanskritic Kendra and Samaj Anushilon Kendra participated in the view-exchange meeting held at the Centre for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences of Dhaka University.
Convener of the Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya, Mafijur Rahman Laltu presented the keynote paper at the event that addressed sensitive issues.Â
‘These sensitive issues are related to geopolitics, national interest, regional stability and security concerns and an interim government has no rights to take decisions on them,’ Mafijur Rahman Laltu said, adding that the government must stop this kind of imperialist approach after a student-led mass uprising.Â
Myanmar ‘humanitarian corridor’ is a grand geopolitical crisis of India, China, the United States and Myanmar and Bangladesh should not participate in the talks, Laltu said, adding that expensive Starlink sets their landing station in Cox’s Bazar supposed to be also used by the Arakan Army creating a security crisis.
Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya will organise cultural rallies in Dhaka and Chattogram to protest at these moves by the interim government, said Laltu.
