
Bangladesh鈥檚 swimmers Samiul Islam Rafi and Annie Akter failed to improve timings in their respective men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 50 metre backstroke freestyle events in the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Saturday.
Rafi placed 55th among 63 swimmers in the men鈥檚 50m backstroke with clocking 27.21 seconds, which fell short of his previous individual best of 26.90 seconds.聽
Annie finished 92nd among 104 participants in the women鈥檚 50m freestyle event with clocking 31.39 seconds. Her previous best in the event was 31.05 seconds.聽
Earlier on Thursday, Annie recorded her career-best timing in the women鈥檚 100m freestyle event by clocking 1:08.43 seconds to finish 77th out of 82 competitors worldwide. Her previous best was 1:12.20 seconds.聽
Rafi clocked 58.36 seconds in the men鈥檚 100 metre backstroke event on Monday. His previous best in the event was 54.37 seconds in Hungary, 2024.聽聽
In Singapore, more than 2500 athletes from 205 countries are participating in the championship, which began on July 11 and will end today.聽
