Archer Sagor Islam will carry the national flag of Bangladesh in the march past of the 33rd Olympic Games scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 11 in Paris.

This was disclosed by Bangladesh Olympic Association secretary general Syed Shahed Reza at a press conference held at the BOA auditorium on Thursday.

‘As archer Sagar has directly qualified to play in the Olympics. That is why we have selected him to carry the flag,’ said BOA secretary general about the selection of Sagor.

Carrying the flag at an event like the Olympics is a great honour, and Sagar is also boosted by the honour after being directly qualified for the Olympics.

‘It’s a great honour to carry the flag of Bangladesh in the Olympics. Thanks to BOA for giving me this opportunity,’ said Sagor, who was also present during the press conference.

Sagor will compete in the men’s individual ranking round on July 25, the day before the opening ceremony.

If he makes it to the ranking round in the men’s individual event, his next round will be on July 30.

Chef de mission Enthekhabul Hamid will lead the thirteen-member Bangladesh contingent, which includes athletes, trainers, and officials.

Five athletes from Bangladesh will take part in four disciplines—archery, athletics, shooting, and swimming—in the Paris Olympics.

They are archer Sagor, shooter Robiul Islam, swimmers Samiul Islam Rafi and Mst Sonia Khatun, and sprinter Imranur Rahman.

Among the five athletes, Sagor qualified directly on his merit, while the remaining four were handed wildcard entries.

The Bangladesh disciplines in the Paris Olympic will begin on July 25 through the archery event.

The players and officials of the Bangladesh archery and Bangladesh shooting teams will leave for Paris on Saturday, while the players and officials of the athletic and swimming teams will leave on July 23 and 24, respectively.

The country’s fastest sprinter, Imranur, who has been undergoing training under the supervision of coach Steven Howard Fudge, will directly join the Bangladesh contingent in Paris from the United Kingdom.

The BOA media committee’s chairman, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, and Bangladesh chef de mission, Enthekhabul Hamid, were also present in the press conference.
