Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy observed the 163rd anniversary of the birth of Ustad Allauddin Khan, a towering figure in the subcontinental classical music, with a special event held on Wednesday at Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka.
The programme began with a video message from Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The event featured a documentary on Ustad Allauddin Khan鈥檚 life and work, followed by a discussion, an awards ceremony and a musical concert.
Industries ministry adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, environment ministry adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and cultural affairs ministry adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, among others, spoke at the programme.
Renowned photographer Nasir Ali Mamun delivered a speech on the legendary maestro, while the event also honoured Siraj Ali Khan, the great-grandson of Ustad Allauddin Khan.
The musical performances included renditions by Pandit Asit Dey, Afsana Khan, Rukhsana Khan, Siraj Ali Khan, Archik Banerjee and teachers and students from Bengal Parampara Sangeetalaya.
