Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC on Wednesday provided scholarships to 300 poor and meritorious students, who have passed HSC and equivalent examinations and are currently studying in the first year of their degree in various public universities, government medical colleges and engineering universities in the country.

A total of Tk 3,81,00,000 will be provided to 150 male and 150 female students to complete their courses in four years, said a press release. 


The scholarship cheques were officially distributed at a ceremony organised at the bank’s corporate head office, where 50 recipients received the scholarship cheques and the remaining 250 recipients will receive their sum through their respective bank accounts within a stipulated time.

SIB chairman AK Azad handed over the scholarship cheques among the students as chief guest in the programme.

SIB director and bank foundation chairman Md Sanaullah Shahid attended the event as a special guest.

SIB managing director Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme.

SEVP and company secretary Md Abul Bashar moderated the programme.

Vice-chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed, directors Md Abdul Barek, Khandaker Shakib Ahmed, Md Towhidur Rahman, Md Moshiur Rahman Chamak,  Tahera Faruque,  Fakir Mashrikuzzaman, Fakir Maniruzzaman, Abdul Hakim, independent directors Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Md Reazul Karim attended as guests.

Additional managing director Imtiaz U Ahmed, deputy managing director MM Saiful Islam, internal control and compliance division head Mohammed Ashfaqul Hoque, CFO Md Jafar Sadeq, investment risk management division head Md Amzad Hossain, special asset management department head Tariqul Islam, in-charge of public relations department and bank foundation KM Harunur Rashid, among others, attended the event.

In his speech, AK Azad said that since 2006, Shahjalal Islami Bank had been providing scholarships to poor and talented students from different parts of the country.

The chairman also urged people from all walks of life to come forward to ensure fair and quality education for everyone in the society.
