
The Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology of Dhaka University plans a special training programme to create qualified and skilled manpower in the field of leather processing technology.
The training will be supported by the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Programme under the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, said a press release
ILET and SICIP signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday to implement the important programme titled ‘Skilled Manpower Development and Industry Competitiveness for the Leather Sector.’
This initiative will help develop skilled professionals for Bangladesh’s growing leather industry, positively impacting the country’s economy.
Engineers, managers, technicians, and students interested in the leather industry can participate in training programs, including a Post-Graduate Diploma and Advanced Certificate Courses on Compliance and Sustainability, Automation and AI for Design, and Lean Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
The Post-Graduate Diploma in Leather Technology provides students with sustainable skills in leather technology.
An Advanced Certificate in Compliance and Sustainability for the Leather Sector helps trainees meet compliance standards and promote environmentally friendly practices.
The Advanced Certificate in Automation and AI for Design equips trainees with skills in using modern technologies for leather product design and production.
Finally, the Advanced Certificate in Lean Manufacturing and Quality Assurance trains individuals in lean practices, waste reduction, and quality management.
According to the World Footwear 2024 Yearbook, Bangladesh has emerged as one of the world’s top 10 footwear producers over the past decade.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau data, total leather exports between July 2024 and May 2025 amounted to 1,057.82 million US dollars, an increase of 12.55 per cent over the same period of the previous fiscal year.
