A seminar titled Regional Geopolitical Landscape: Impacts on the Security Dynamics of Bangladesh and Ways Forward was held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The Armed Forces Division and the BIISS jointly organised the seminar, according to an Inter Services Public Relations press release.


Shipping and labour and employment adviser M Sakhawat Hussain attended as chief guest while principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan was present as special guest in the seminar.

Diplomats, ambassadors, military attaches, senior military officers, officials from various ministries and media representatives participated in the seminar.

BIISS director general Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome address.

M Sakhawat Hussain highlighted Bangladesh鈥檚 recent geopolitical context, regional developments and the Rohingya issue in the seminar.

He stressed that no country could ensure national security without regional stability and cooperation and called for balanced, interest-based relations with all nations.

SM Kamrul Hassan discussed the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape and emphasised the need for strategic clarity, visionary policymaking and the development of a defence industry.

The keynote paper was presented by Professor ASM Ali Ashraf, chairman, department of international relations, University of Dhaka.

Professors Niloy Ranjan Biswas and Shahab Enam Khan participated as panel discussants.

Former ambassador and president of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute M Humayun Kabir moderated the session.

Captain Shafiul Muznibin of the Armed Forces Division conducted the seminar.

Speakers discussed Bangladesh鈥檚 security, foreign policy and regional geopolitical priorities, stressing the significance of regional cooperation, diplomatic balance, defence capability and strategies against non-traditional security threats.

The seminar is expected to aid in safeguarding national interests and formulating a pragmatic and effective strategy aligned with global changes.
