Standard Chartered Bangladesh, in collaboration with Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Bangladesh, has developed two farming smart model villages in Rangpur district, said a press release.
This initiative aims to uplift underprivileged rural communities by fostering sustainable agriculture and creating opportunities for growth.
Through this programme, over 3,500 villagers have gained support, while young entrepreneurs have been empowered to drive agriculture-based employment, the release said.
Key interventions included the establishment of two Centres of Excellence, which serve as hubs for agricultural training, innovation and community services. Farmers’ Hubs were also developed to improve access to markets, modern technologies and advisory services.
The programme also prioritised capacity building through trainings and community sensitisation initiatives, which led to early adoption of agricultural insurance by 300 farmers. These interventions have strengthened community collaboration, improved financial resilience and enhanced stakeholder linkages, setting a model for sustainable rural development, said the release.
Bitopi Das Chowdhury, corporate affairs, brand and marketing head of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, ‘Having implemented 18 impactful agricultural projects covering more than 57,000 beneficiaries across the country , this unique initiative marks a new milestone – transforming entire communities within these model villages.’
