Sonargaon History, Heritage and Antiquities Preservation Committee formed a human chain, demanding preservation of a 750-year-old Hadith study centre library at Sonargaon, in front of the dilapidated wall library at Sholpara of Mograpara under Sonargaon in Nrayanganj on Friday.

Poet Shahed Kayes, convener of the Sonargaon History, Heritage and Antiquities Preservation Committee, chaired the human chain, which was moderated by joint convener journalist Mizanur Rahman Mamun, said a press release.


Poet Rahman Mujib, member secretary of committee; writer and journalist Rabiul Hussain, president of Sonargaon Sahitya Niketan; Asma Akhtari, president of Udichi Sonargaon branch; Shankar Prakash, president of cultural organisation Charan; Md Belayet Hossain, finance secretary of Sonargaon Sahitya Niketan; organising secretary Mofakhkhar Sagar; education and research secretary Moazzenul Haque; cultural secretary Dewan Shamsur Rahman; executive member Rokeya Akhter Baby, teacher Shamima Nasrin and organiser Russell Ahmed were present at the human chain.

The speakers said that in the Mograpara area of ​​Sonargaon, around 1278, renowned Islamic thinker Sharfuddin Abu Tawwama, who came from Uzbekistan, established a Hadith study centre.

Very close to it was an international educational institution, the Islamic Academy, whose principal was Sharfuddin Abu Tawwama. At that time, it became widely known in the country and abroad, they said, adding that there was a rich library next to this study centre. ‘It still exists today.’

The speakers demanded immediate renovation and protection of this important archaeological resource.
