The Bangladesh under-18 women’s hockey team’s debut in the U-18 Asia Cup got off to a devastating start, as they lost to Japan 11-0 in their Pool A opener at the Dazhou National Hockey Training Centre in China on Friday.

Bangladesh defended well against the mighty Japan in the first quarter, conceding only one goal in the 10th minute, then conceded two in the second quarter and one in the third quarter.

However, Bangladesh’s defence suffered a severe collapse, conceding seven more goals in the final 15 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Tamura Rina (10th, 51st, 57th, 59th) scored four field goals for Japan, while Koike Sayo (23rd, 45th, 53rd) opened her account with a goal from a penalty corner before adding two field goals.

Fujii Nene (30th, 59th), Yamamoto Rina (18th), and Ishihara Juri (55th) also scored additional field goals for Japan.

Bangladesh will play against Uzbekistan in their second match today and will conclude their pool campaign with a game against Hong Kong on Monday.
