Bangladesh got off to a winning start in the five-team Pool A opener of the Men’s Under-18 Asia Cup hockey with a 3-0 win over Hong Kong at the Dazhou National Hockey Training Centre in China on Thursday.

Din Islam scored a brace while Amit Hasan added once for Bangladesh, who finished runners-up in this tournament in 2016.


Islam gave Bangladesh the lead in the second quarter of the game by scoring a field goal in the 20th minute before striking his second in the 26th minute from a penalty corner. Amit extended the scoreline further with a strike from penalty corner in the 43rd minute.

Bangladesh will play their next game against Sri Lanka on Saturday before facing China and Pakistan on July 6 and 8 respectively.

A total of 11-team split into two pools are competing in this tournament and the top two teams from each pool will advance into the semi-finals to be held on July 11 before the final July 13.

Pool B is comprised of Malaysia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Kazakhstan.
