Bangladeshi photographer and activist Shahidul Alam, lone Bangladeshi aboard the flotilla vessel Conscience, on Sunday expressed fear that they might be arrested.
They will then either be deported or imprisoned as they kept sailing to Gaza in a bid to break the Israeli siege to the Palestinian territory.
He expressed the fear about the mission to Gaza as those in front of them in the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid were intercepted and ‘abducted’ by the Israeli occupation forces.Â
‘It is difficult to predict what would happen to me while I will be in the hands of the Israeli forces since I have long been protesting at the Israeli aggression in Gaza,’ Shahidul told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
I fear detention and immediate deportation, he said, but I am not going to sign any undertaking as none of us has crossed international waters yet.
Shahidul said that they were already in touch with the Bangladesh foreign ministry for a third-country deportation for him if Israel made such an attempt.Â
‘Given past history, it is very unlikely that they will let us through and we are, in all probability, going to be arrested and either deported or sent to prison… It is certainly not in our hands. This is where we need your help,’ Shahidul said in a Facebook post from the Conscience vessel, the largest one in the Global Media Flotilla, along with other boats approaching Gaza.Â
He suggested using the tracker to follow their journey to know about their present location and stand by their campaign through the site https://globalsumudflotilla.org/tracker/’.
He underscored the need for sufficient public pressure on Israel for allowing them to Gaza.
‘If you can take action on the ground that creates pressure to allow us to get to Gaza, that will be the best outcome, but the only way that might happen is if there is sufficient public pressure on Israel to do so…,’ Shahidul said in the post.
He said that he had received a message from Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday morning.
‘I was delighted to receive a message this morning from the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. So good to have the messages of solidarity and support from my country folk and friends and well-wishers across the globe,’ he mentioned.
On Saturday, he wrote in a Facebook post that Conscience, the largest vessel participating in the movement, was the last to set off.
It departed on September 30, 2025 from Otranto, Italy, while eight other boats had left shortly before, he said.Â
According to a Freedom Flotilla Coalition press release issued on September 30, the launch of Conscience followed the departure of 10 boats that had set sail for Gaza on September 25 and September 27, organised jointly by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens.
The new convoy kept heading towards Gaza, while Israeli naval forces, between October 1 and 3, intercepted 42 boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and detained over 462 activists on board as they were attempting to break Israel’s siege on Gaza.
Following the Israeli interception and detention of flotilla activists, thousands of people in Bangladesh and many other countries took to the streets in protest.
