The embassy of the Netherlands in Dhaka is scheduled to launch a project in partnership with the Centre for Governance Studies, a non-government think tank, to promote the political participation of women, youth, and marginalised people.
The project aims to empower women and youth in Bangladesh’s politics through mentoring and leadership training.Â
The Netherlands ambassador Andre Karstens and the CGS executive director Zillur Rahman signed a memorandum of understanding at the Netherlands embassy in the capital on Thursday, said a CGS press release.
Andre Karstens said, ‘The Netherlands has always pushed for gender inclusion and believes that real progress means making sure everyone – especially women and young people – has a voice. This project we’re launching is a big step in making that happens here in Bangladesh.’
Zillur Rahman said, ‘We hope that this project will help foster spontaneous and competitive participation of women and young people in politics, bringing about greater equality.’
The CGS senior research associate Apon Zahir, chief of staff Depanjali Roy, and research associate Sadia Tasnim along with the Netherlands first secretary Cor Stouten and senior policy adviser Namia Akhter were also present at the event.
