The country’s top-tier football league, the Bangladesh Premier League, has been renamed as the Bangladesh Football League, as the 10-team competition begins on Friday.
The decision to rename the league came at the eleventh hour after Thursday’s meeting between the Bangladesh Football Federation executive committee and the BFF Professional League Management Committee.
The club officials of the participating teams also attended the meeting at BFF.
‘The Bangladesh Premier League (Tier-1) has officially been renamed as the Bangladesh Football League following the decision of the Professional League Management Committee, participating clubs, and the BFF Executive Committee,’ read the BFF release.
The professional league was first introduced in 2007 as the B League, before it was renamed.
‘Bangladesh League’ in 2008 and later became the ‘Bangladesh Premier League’ in 2011. Now, after 13 years, the name has been changed again.
