
Artists Al Akhir Sarker and M M Maksud Biplob have depicted Dhaka’s beauty and chaos in a duet art exhibition titled ‘Metropolitan: Beauty in Chaos’ under way at Bhumi Gallery in Lalmatia, Dhaka.
A 12-day exhibition, which began on August 29, has been organised by Shilpangan. It is featuring 99 acrylic and watercolour paintings of different shapes and sizes.
Painter Al Akhir Sarker has displayed 53 acrylic and watercolour abstract artworks. He has experimented with different sizes, shapes and colours while depicting the structures, lights and ambience of Dhaka.
Al Akhir Sarker’s acrylic on canvas artwork titled ‘Metropolitan Afternoon’ shows the skyline of Dhaka with buildings, cables and a kite with the sun setting in the background.
His acrylic on paper artwork titled ‘Busy Dhaka’ shows the chaos of Dhaka teeming with multi-storey buildings, signboards and colourful rickshaws.
Architect-painter Maksud Biplob has displayed 46 mostly acrylic paintings and portrayed structures of Dhaka city with a realistic approach.
His artworks depict Kamlapur Railway Station, Dhaka University, Manik Mia Avenue and the old town of Dhaka with newly introduced structures, including overbridges, metro rail stations and elevated expressway.
Maksud Biplob’s acrylic on canvas artwork titled ‘Songs of the Flame’ shows workers inhaling black smoke while repairing a street burning pitch.
His watercolour on paper artwork titled ‘Colours on Head’ shows a street hawker carrying colourful hens in a basket.
The exhibition will end on September 9.
