The government is going to introduce the diploma in primary education programme for the master鈥檚 level students on pilot basis from next year.
Initially, the 10-month-long programme will be introduced in 12 primary teacher鈥檚 training institutes across the country, aiming at appointing skilled teachers in primary education institutions.
The interested ones will need to take an admission test and pay Tk 12,000 in total to complete the diploma designed in two semesters.
The announcement on the diploma came at a press conference on Tuesday held at the conference room of primary and mass education ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The interim government adviser to the primary and mass education ministry Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder and ministry secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana were present at the press event where National Primary Education Academy director general Farid Ahmed read out a statement.
Farid Ahmed said that the programme would develop the research and analysis power of the students and enhance their skills as future teachers.
At this early stage of piloting the diploma programme, taking the course would not add any particular advantage for any candidate in primary teacher recruitment, he added.
The adviser hoped that universities would introduce the diploma gradually when those completing the diploma would be given priority in primary teacher recruitment.聽
Replying to a question, he said that the government had already given a statement on introducing the posts of music teachers and physical training instructors in government primary schools on a large scale.
Professor Bidhan, however, added that it might not be possible for this interim government to introduce it at that scale.
About death of a primary teacher who got sick in the recent movement, he said that the teacher had some chronic problems already and the ministry was taking steps to assist her family.聽
