A total of 22.1 per cent people in Bangladesh remained illiterate till now, said the officials of primary and mass education ministry officials on Sunday.聽

At a press conference, the adviser to the ministry Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said that the rate could be higher in the reality as the earlier government used to hide statistics.


The press conference was held by the primary and mass education ministry at the secretariat marking International Literacy Day on Monday.

The adviser also said that currently the main focus of the ministry under this interim government is to ensure literacy amongst all.

The press conference was attended, among others, by senior officials of the ministry.
