The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday named Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Saif Hassan as the vice-captains of the national team in Test, ODI, and T20I, respectively.
According to a press release issued by the BCB, Mehidy would serve as the deputy to Shanto, who has been recently reinstated as the Test captain until the end of the current ICC Test Championship cycle in 2027.Â
Shanto, who was stripped of the ODI captaincy earlier, would assume the role of vice-captain under Mehidy, who would lead the side in 50-over until at least June next year.Â
Saif’s elevation to the leadership role has been somewhat of a surprise given that he only re-emerged in the national team setup in the T20I format in August.Â
However, the BCB stated that Saif was rewarded ‘on the back of consistent and impressive performances in the shortest format for Bangladesh.’
Saif will be deputy to Litton Das, who has been entrusted with leading the T20 side until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
Bangladesh are currently playing a two-Test series against Ireland, as the second Test starts today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.Â
It will be followed by a three-match T20I series in Chattogram starting on November 27.Â
