The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday postponed the second edition of the National Cricket League T20 for an indefinite period due to inclement weather.
‘The Technical Committee for the National Cricket League T20 2025-26 has announced the postponement of the matches due to the inclement weather prevailing across the country,’ the BCB said in a press release.Â
The timeline for when the tournament would resume was not determined. ‘Updates regarding the resumption of the tournament will be provided in due course.’
The T20 tournament, which commenced on Sunday, was hit with adverse conditions since the opening day.Â
Bogura and Rajshahi were supposed to hold the first 12 matches of the tournament before the Sylhet phase.Â
But only a five-over shootout between the hosts and Dhaka Metro was possible on the opening day in Rajshahi, while the match in Bogura had to be abandoned without a ball bowled.
As a result, the matches in Bogura were relocated to Rajshahi for the following two match days.Â
Rajshahi was supposed to host two matches on a day. But all matches were called off due to the wet outfield in Rajshahi on Monday.Â
That put the drainage system of the two grounds and the scheduling of the tournament under question.Â
It was learnt that the NCL T20 was supposed to hold its initial matches in Sylhet, as the grounds had better facilities in terms of drainage systems.Â
But the BCB changed the initial plan and opted to host the first 12 matches in Bogura and Rajshahi.Â
However, a BCB official claimed that in such weather, no venue would be able to host matches. It was also learnt that BCB was working on how the tournament could be relocated.Â
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, light to very heavy rainfall was likely at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions during the 72 hours commencing at 9:00am on Wednesday.
The NCL was supposed to be the perfect platform for the domestic players to showcase their skills before the draft of the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.Â
The BCB hosted a grand launching programme of the tournament and expressed high hopes about it. But as of now, all came to a standstill.Â
