Jason Sangha’s unbeaten 83 and collective bowling effort helped South Australia dominate the opening day of the four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’ at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Thursday.

Bangladesh were limited to 114 after being put into bat first, in reply South Australia reached 204-5, taking a 90-run lead at stumps.

Harry Nielsen was unbeaten on 28 with Sangha, who smashed eight fours and a six in his knock.

Earlier, Bangladesh bowlers failed to capitalise on despite taking early wickets as South Australia were reduced to 47-4.

However, Sangha added a 97-run partnership with Jake Fraser-Mcgurk, who contributed 52 runs and another 61-run stand with Harry to steady their innings.

Four of the five bowlers were among the wickets for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh suffered a huge setback as only two batters Mahmudul Hasan (13) and Shahadat Hossain Dipu (25) managed to cross double digits while others struggled against the hosts, including captain Mahidul Islam Ankon (9).

Tail-enders Rakibul Hasan and Anamul Haque’s 48-run partnership for the last wicket took them past 100-run mark. Anamul scored 27 off 33 and Rakibul chipped in 22 off 27.

Henry Thornton and Jerssis Wadia each took three wickets for South Australia.
