The Bangladesh Cricket Board are in an uncomfortable position as they are set to host the Annual General Meeting of the Asian Cricket Council starting today in Dhaka despite the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s boycott.Â
According to the Indian media reports, the BCCI asked to change the venue of the AGM. But the chairman of the ACC, Mohsin Naqvi, who’s also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, didn’t agree.Â
Mohsin arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday as the president of the BCB, Aminul Islam, greeted him at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.Â
There have been reports that along with India, the Sri Lanka and Afghanistan boards will also not attend the meeting.Â
Earlier, a white ball series between India and Bangladesh was deferred by more than a year as the BCCI were not willing to tour Bangladesh.
There was no official reason behind it. But it was learnt that the BCCI didn’t want to tour Bangladesh in the current political situation.Â
However, Aminul said that the BCB would not be in any position where any problem can be created with the BCCI. Â
‘This is a programme of the ACC; we are just giving them logistical support. This is the only thing,’ Aminul told reporters on Tuesday.Â
‘I don’t think [there will be any problem]. Cricket is above all. I am saying this again: we are just the host. As we didn’t host it before, we will try to organise it well.’ Aminul added.Â
Aminul also expressed his excitement to host the Asian cricket-playing nations. Â
‘It’s good for us that various associate countries are coming here. As we used to see the full-member nations as big brothers, now they are seeing us like that. We will try to present our cricket culture in front of them,’ he said.Â
The future of the Asia Cup should be the major outcome from the meeting.Â
The tournament is supposed to be held in India in September.Â
But after the cross-border clash between Pakistan and India and now India’s view towards Bangladesh, the tournament became highly uncertain.
