The Governing Council of the Bangladesh Premier League has decided to allocate a portion of ticket sales revenue to the franchises that have fulfilled their player payment obligations, as stated by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.

The decision came after a meeting on player payments and revenue distribution from the 11th edition of BPL T20 on Monday.

The central focus of the meeting was the issue of outstanding payments owed to both local and international players who were part of the players’ draft.

As a result, the four teams that qualified for the playoffs—Fortune Barishal, Chittagong Kings, Rangpur Riders, and Khulna Tigers—will receive Tk 55 lakh each, while the remaining three teams—Durbar Rajshahi, Dhaka Capitals, and Sylhet Strikers—each will get Tk 45 lakh.

‘The final disbursement amount for each franchise will be determined proportionally, based on the percentage of outstanding player payments they have cleared relative to their eligible share,’ the press release read.

‘In addition, the Governing Council has decided to pursue legal action against any franchise that continues to default on payment obligations despite repeated official notices. This decision reflects the BCB’s commitment to ensuring contractual accountability and maintaining the integrity of the league,’ it added.

The BCB also said that it’s the first time that they would distribute revenue from ticket sales to BPL franchises. It also mentioned that the disbursement, scheduled ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, would be conditional upon the verification of payment acknowledgements from the respective players.

The last edition of BPL, which ended in early February, saw various controversies related to payment issues. The foreign players of Rajshahi even boycotted a match as they didn’t get the payment in the promised timeline.
