Parvez Hossain became the second Bangladeshi player to score a hundred in a T20 international as Bangladesh beat the UAE by 27 runs in the first of the two-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.听
Thanks to Parvez鈥檚 ton, which consisted of a record nine sixes, Bangladesh put up 191-7 in 20 overs.听
Despite having a great start in the first half of the chase, the hosts collapsed to lose their last seven wickets for just 33 runs. They were bundled out for 164 in the last ball of the innings.听
Opener Tanzid Hasan made a breezy start to the Bangladesh innings by hitting a four and a six in the first over. But his stay was cut short in the second over.听
Parvez, who had a highest score of 39 runs in his previous seven matches, got going in the third over when he hit Dhruv Parashar a four followed by a six.听
However, Bangladesh also lost their captain, Liton Das, inside the powerplay, where they made 55 runs.听
The next 10 overs yielded 94 runs as Parvez reached fifty in 28 balls. They lost Towhid Hridoy and Mahedi Hasan in consecutive overs, but Parvez was there to build a good score.听
The southpaw reached hundred in 53 balls and was out in the next ball before making the damage.听
Before Parvez, only Tamim Iqbal had a T20I hundred for Bangladesh, which came against Oman back in 2016.听
Parvez also surpassed Rishad Hossain in terms of hitting the most sixes in an innings by a Bangladeshi batter. Rishad hit seven sixes against Sri Lanka last year.听
The hosts made a brisk start to their innings as they scored 52-2 in the powerplay. Captain Muhammad Waseem made 54 off 39 as they reached 98-2 after the first 10, just five runs short of Bangladesh at that stage.听
Tanzim Hasan made the crucial breakthrough for the Liton Das-led side as Waseem failed to manage a short-pitched delivery.听
However, Rahul Chopra (35 off 22) and 听Asif Khan (42 off 21) threatened to snatch the game away from Bangladesh.听
But Rahul鈥檚 wicket, who became Tanzim鈥檚 second victim, triggered a collapse. Bangladesh bowlers bossed the last phase of the game to take the 1-0 lead.听
All five bowlers of Bangladesh were among the wickets, with Hasan Mahmud taking three. Mustafizur Rahman 2-17, while Tanzim Hasan took 2-22. Mahedi, who spent 55 runs in his four overs, also grabbed two wickets.听
The second and final match of the series is at the same venue on Monday.听
