Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed believes that their newly appointed pace bowling coach Shaun Tait will bring valuable insights to the game.
The former Australian express bowler has replaced Andre Adams—whose contract ended by mutual agreement—and will join the Tigers later this month.
Taskin, who is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, has welcomed the move by the board, as he believes Tait’s experience will be useful for them.
‘Hopefully, many good things are ahead,’ Taskin told the reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Thursday after one of the ongoing rehab sessions.
‘He was a very good fast bowler and played a lot for Australia. The best part is we have a lot of T20 cricket this year. He played T20s in the modern era and has experience in major T20 events. He must have some good insights into the game. Hopefully, his experience will help us,’ added Taskin.
Tait has previously coached in the Bangladesh Premier League, before taking part in the competition.
‘Actually, when you’re in the national set-up, a coach can help with game awareness and some technical aspects, but bowlers mostly have to coach themselves,’ said Taskin.
‘However, when you have a big personality like Tait around, things become easier. Hopefully, his inclusion will benefit us.’
Taskin, who has been out of competitive cricket for almost two months now, has reflected on his latest injury and rehabilitation process. He recently consulted a specialist in the UK.
He said, ‘It’s just part of the rehabilitation process—that’s what’s going on right now. Our cricket board’s physio and trainer, along with a specialist from the UK, have come together to set up a rehab plan. So far, five sessions have been completed. I’ve also started light bowling.’
‘For fast bowlers, sometimes even if there’s no pain, a scan might still reveal something. In my case, I have issues in both legs, but it’s the left foot that gives me soreness since that’s my landing foot,’ he added.
The 30-year-old was not considered for the upcoming series against the UAE and Pakistan. The selectors said that they were hoping Taskin would come back in the Sri Lanka series.
Taskin also echoed that thought.
‘It’s difficult to set a specific date for my comeback. Right now, we’re targeting the Sri Lanka series in June, if everything goes well. So far, no complaints. If things continue like this, I’m hopeful of making a comeback in that series.’
