Taskin Ahmed and Mahmudullah.

Mahmudullah opted out as Taskin Ahmed was placed in the highest-paid grade of the national players’ contracts for 2025, which was announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.

Mahmudullah, who has already retired from Tests, was initially in Grade B but requested the Cricket Operations not to consider him in the contract after February 2025. As such, he will not be a part of the contract from March 2025.

BCB awarded the contracts to 22 players, including Mahmudullah, who were divided into five salary grades—A+, A, B, C, and D—which was backdated to January 1, 2025. The contract will run until the end of this year.

Pacer Taskin Ahmed, who has been spearheading the bowling attack in all formats for Bangladesh, is the sole member in the highest grade, which will see him get Tk 10 lakh per month.

The players who are in Grade A, B, C, and D would receive Tk eight, six, four, and two lakhs, respectively.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has been placed in Grade A. Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently retired from the ODIs, was initially in this grade but would be demoted to Grade B from March.

Liton Das, who was dropped from the squad of the recently concluded Champions Trophy, also found a place in this grade, along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

After dividing the contracts into formats (ie, Test, ODI, and T20I), BCB returned to the more conventional grading this time.

Pace sensation Nahid Rana, who has played six Tests and four ODIs so far, has been awarded the contracts for the first time. Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali and opening batter Tanzid Hasan have also been included for the first time, while openers Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar made a comeback.

Rana is in Grade B while the others are in Grade C.

Former captain Shakib Al Hasan, who is yet to return to the country after the fall of the Awami League government, has been excluded from the contract. He was one of the five members of the all-format contract last time.

Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan and Zakir Hasan, along with opener Mahmudul Hasan and off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, have also been axed from the national contracts.
