The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday terminated the contract of Chandika Hathurusingha with immediate effect, citing misconduct and breach of employment terms.
BCB suspended Hathurusingha on disciplinary reasons on October 15 and served a notice for 48 hours, seeking an explanation from the Sri Lankan coach.Â
Hathurusingha responded to the show-cause notice on Wednesday via email to the board.
Following the receipt of his response, an emergency meeting of the board was called to review the situation.Â
After evaluating all factors, the board found Hathurusingha’s explanation to be unsatisfactory and unacceptable, determining that his actions constituted misconduct and negligence of duty.
Hathurusingha began his second tenure with the Bangladesh team in January 2023 and ended five months before the contract’s expiration.
BCB appointed former West Indies coach Phil Simmons for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa and will continue until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Following the Tests, the Tigers will play an away ODI series against Afghanistan and an all-format bilateral series away to the Caribbean under him before the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
The board might extend the contract with Simmons based on the outcomes of the upcoming events.
He has earlier worked with the West Indies, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Afghanistan.
