Cricketers from 64 districts presented the Bangladesh Cricket Board with a 16-point demand when they gathered at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
The board later assured them that they’d be beside the cricketers within their capacity.
The demands of the cricketers include a fixed calendar for domestic cricket, a second-tier National Cricket League tournament, and a camp comprising the best cricketers from first, second, and third division Cricket Leagues.
They further demanded fair umpiring and to hold one-day and T20 tournaments at the district level each year.
The cricketers presented a particular demand regarding the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh. They want that CWAB will work independently and will be for the cricketers’ interests.
‘There has been irregularity for many days. If BCB wants, then we hope that the problems will be solved soon,’ a cricketer named Riajul Riyad from the Dhaka First Division Cricket League has told reporters.
The cricketers have requested BCB to increase the practice facilities in each district. Another cricketer, Riajur, said, ‘During BPL, six to seven teams do practice on the same academy grounds. But if the BCB wants, then they can build five academies like that in various places. And if the number of the ground also increases, then all praise to Allah (Alhamdulillah).’
BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim later talked with the cricketers.
‘The demands that you have made now are not a matter of the benefit of the BCB or you. We have to see what will be beneficial to cricket. To do that, the BCB will do everything within their capacity,’ said Fahim.
‘You can be assured of one thing. The cricket board will be within your side according to the capacity that you can present your talents by playing cricket, and that your talent will be evaluated.
‘Hope you will understand that. Not all the demands can be fulfilled right now. But our wish is that cricket will be beneficial.’
