Natore sugar mill is set to begin its 42nd sugarcane threshing operation on Friday, aiming for increased production in the new season.
The mill has set a target to produce 6,930 tonnes of sugar by threshing 110,000 tonnes of sugarcane.
This season, sugarcane has been cultivated on 810 hectares of land within the mill’s operational area. To support farmers, the mill authorities have disbursed Tk 9.30 crore in loans for seeds, fertilisers, and cash assistance.
Additionally, the purchase price of sugarcane at the farmer level has been raised from Tk 6,000 to 6,250 per tonne, offering growers a better return on their produce.
Last season, the mill had set a target to produce 5,300 tonnes of sugar by threshing 90,000 tonnes of sugarcane. However, it surpassed expectations by producing 6,148 tonnes of sugar after threshing 107,775 tonnes of cane.
Managing director of Natore Sugar Mill, Krishibid Md Akhlashur Rahman, said that all necessary preparations were completed to begin operations. These included igniting the factory’s boiler, finishing cleaning activities, and activating all sugarcane purchasing centres.
‘With the coordinated efforts of everyone, we hope to achieve a successful sugarcane threshing season,’ he added.
