The police recovered the body of a minor girl from a garden near her grandparents’ house at Shalgaria under ​​Pabna municipality area on Saturday.
Two youths suspected in the incident have been arrested on Sunday.
The deceased, Hafsa, 9, a Class III student, is daughter of Hafizur Rahman of Kamargaon village under Malanchi union of Pabna Sadar upazila.
A few days ago, she went to visit her grandfather’s house at Shalgaria with her mother. Hafsa had been missing since Saturday evening, said Pabna Sadar police officer-in-charge Abdus Salam.
At one stage of the search for her, locals saw she was lying dead in the garden next to her grandparents’ house. On information, police recovered the body from the scene at around 10:00pm.
Locals said that the garden had long been a hangout for drug addicts and gamblers.
The OC said that the police suspect that the miscreants may have strangled the child in order to snatch her earrings.
An investigation is underway, police said.
