A Rajshahi court on Saturday ordered Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian to appear in person and explain why legal action should not be taken against him for allowing a detainee in police custody to speak to the media.

Judge Mamunur Rashid of the Rajpara Thana Metropolitan Magistrate Amoli Court issued the order after the arrested suspect, Limon Mia, was produced before reporters while in custody and made comments blaming the victims in the fatal attack.

Public prosecutor Ali Ashraf Masum said that the court directed the police commissioner to appear before it by November 19.

Limon Mia, 35, son of HM Solaiman Shahid of Modonerpara in Gaibandha’s Fulchhari upazila, is accused of stabbing Tawshif Rahman Suman, the teenage son of Rajshahi metropolitan and sessions judge Abdur Rahman, to death at their rented flat in the city’s Dabtala area on Thursday afternoon.

The boy’s mother, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, was also critically injured in the attack.

Police detained Limon from the spot. He was also injured during the incident and is currently undergoing treatment under police custody at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

While being treated, Limon spoke to journalists and described his version of events, prompting questions over how a detainee in police custody was allowed to give media interviews.

A murder case was filed on Friday over the killing.
