A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered to freeze tax files of Diamond World managing director Dilip Kumar Agarwala and his wife Sobita Agarwala over graft allegations.
Dhaka metropolitan senior special judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission assistant director Sazzad Hossain.
In the application submitted against Dilip Kumar Agarwala, it is stated that the accused聽acquired and retained in possession immovable and movable properties worth Tk 112.47 crore inconsistent with his known sources of income through dishonest means.
In addition, in the names of himself and his associated institutions, he conducted unusual transactions amounting to Tk 755.30 crore through 34 bank accounts. These actions constitute the offenses of money laundering and corruption. The commission has filed a case against him for these offenses.
For the purpose of conducting a proper investigation, the commission requires a review of the accused Dilip鈥檚 income tax file.
In the application submitted against Sobita Agarwala, it is stated that the accused acquired and retained in possession immovable and movable properties worth聽Tk 45.70 crore inconsistent with her known sources of income through dishonest means.
In addition, in the names of herself and her associated institutions, she conducted unusual transactions amounting to Tk 213.08 crore through eight bank accounts. These actions constitute the offenses of money laundering and corruption. The commission has filed a case against her for these offenses.
For the purpose of conducting a proper investigation, the commission requires a review of the accused Sobita Agarwalas income tax records.
