A case was filed on Friday over the killing of Sarwar Hossain Babla, who was shot dead during an election campaign of Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate Ershad Ullah in Chattogram on November 5 evening.

Bayezid Bostami police station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin said on Friday that the victim鈥檚 father, Abdul Kader, filed the case against seven named people and 15 to 16 unidentified others.


The named accused in the case are Sazzad Ali, 50, Mohammad Raihan, 35, Mobarak Hossain alias Imon, 22, Borhan Uddin, 27, Mohammad Alauddin, 28, Mohammad Helal, 32, and Nezam Uddin alias Habib, 40.

The police said that each of them had between five and 14 criminal cases against their names.

On November 5 evening, during the BNP campaign for the Chattogram-8 constituency, Sarwar was shot dead.

The complaint alleged that the killing was carried out under Sazzad鈥檚 instruction by his followers.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Battalion said on Friday morning that two of the accused had been arrested in the city鈥檚 Chandgaon area.

RAB-7 senior assistant director (media) ARM Mozzaffar Hossain said that that they arrested Mohammad Alauddin and Mohammad Helal.

The arrested were handed over to the Bayezid Bostami police station.

Bayezid Bostami police station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin said that both had been sent to jail through court.

Sarwar was killed when miscreants opened fire during Ershad Ullah鈥檚 parliamentary election campaign in Khondakia Para area under Bayezid Bostami police station. BNP candidate Ershad Ullah and two others were also injured in the attack.

Chattogram city BNP member secretary Nazimur Rahman said on Friday afternoon that Ershad Ullah was taken to the capital Dhaka by air ambulance from Evercare Hospital in the port city at about 2:20pm for advanced treatment.

He said that Ershad had suffered bullet injuries to his right chest and leg, but was now out of danger.

He has been admitted to Square Hospital for further treatment.
