North Bengal Sugar Mills Ltd in Lalpur of Natore on Friday launched its sugarcane crushing programme for this season, aiming to process 200,000 tonnes of sugarcane to produce 13,000 tonnes of sugar.
The season鈥檚 crushing operation was inaugurated by industries secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, followed by a discussion session and a dua mahfil on the mill鈥檚 cane carrier premises.
Chaired by Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation chairman Rashidul Hassan, the function was addressed by additional secretary Md Nuruzzaman, deputy commissioner Asma Shaheen, superintendent of police Md Tarikul Islam, and managing director of North Bengal Sugar Mills Ltd Mohammad Farid Hossain Bhuiyan.
Speakers at the programme highlighted government efforts to make the sugar industry profitable, including increased sugarcane prices for farmers and the distribution of high-quality sugarcane seeds.
They urged farmers to supply good-quality sugarcane to the mills to ensure the achievement of production targets.
