The police arrested six more leaders and activists of Awami League, which is currently banned from holding activities, and its affiliated organisations, allegedly for disrupting law and order by bringing out flash processions.

Several teams of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police鈥檚 Detective Branch made the arrests holding raids for about six hours starting from 6:30pm Thursday, said a DMP press release issued on Friday.


The arrested are Juba League leader Shahadat Hossain, 44, Chandpur sadar鈥檚 Chandra union parishad chairman Khan Jahan Ali alias Kalu Patwari, 55, central committee leader Mashiur Rahman, 32, of Bangladesh Chhatra League, which is banned, Khulna鈥檚 Khalishpur thana Awami League vice-president Kazi Faiz Ahmed, 52, Chhatra League Dhaka Metropolitan South unit deputy library and publication affairs secretary Alim Al Tarif, 28, and Awami Matsyajibi League former joint-general secretary Tipu Sultan, 45.

According to the DB, Shahadat was arrested from Tejgaon while Jahan from Khilgaon, Mashiur from Agargaon, Faiz from Bashundhara, Tipu from Demra and Tarif from Lalbagh area in the capital.

Legal actions against them were under way, mentioned the press release.

Leaders and activists of the AL and its associates have recently been staging flash processions across the capital, defying strict law enforcement measures.聽
