A Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party member has been dismissed from service over his attempt to steal feature phones from a building at the cargo facility of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka.
During the theft attempt, the member of the paramilitary auxiliary force, Jenarul Islam, was stationed at the airport.
The building was burnt in an October 18 fire that broke out at the cargo facility of the airport and damaged the building and goods stored inside it.
The Ansar member was dismissed for violating the force鈥檚 discipline and code of conduct, said a press release issued by the Ansar and Village Defence Party on Friday.
The Ansar and VDP in the release said that the accused was caught red-handed while trying to secretly take out several feature phones from the damaged building.
The incident occurred between 10:30pm on November 5 to 6:30am on November 6 when Jenarul was on night shift duty, according to the release.
According to the release, driven by greed, the dismissed Ansar personnel entered the burnt section of the building and tried to remove the items unlawfully.
