The central research review and planning workshop 2025 of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute has been inaugurated at the Kazi Badrudduza Auditorium of the institute in Gazipur on Wednesday.
This workshop has been organised for the purpose of evaluating all the research programmes undertaken in 2024-2025 and formulating the research programme for the next year 2025-2026 in the light of these experiences, said a press release.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute is currently conducting research activities on 212 crops. A total of 1349 technologies, including 677 high yielding, diseases resistant and various adverse environment resistant varieties and 672 other production technologies have been developed by BARI.
As a result of these technological innovations, the production of oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, wheat, vegetables, spices and fruits has increased tremendously in the country.
The main objective of this workshop is to verify the suitability of these technologies and to take up the programme of technology innovation according to the current demand of the country.
The technical sessions of the workshop will be held regularly in November 11–13.
Agriculture adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was presided over by director general of BARI Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhond.
Agriculture secretary Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was present as special guests.
Jahangir Alam said, ‘We will design our research programme on basis our farmers’ interest. Country and people will be benefited from here.’
At the inauguration ceremony, Abdullah Yousuf Akhond presented a keynote paper on BARI’s research activities and achievement.
BARI’s director, research, Munshi Rashid Ahmad; director, support and services, Ashraf Uddin Ahmed; director, training and communication, Md Ataur Rahman; director, Horticulture Research Centre Faruque Ahmed; director Pulse Research Centre Md Mazharul Anwar; director Md Monjurul kadir; director Md Mokhlesur Rahman; and director Md Altaf Hossain were also present on the occasion.
Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation, senior officer of various institutions, agricultural experts, scientists, representatives from government, non-government and international organizations, BARI scientists and officers were, among others, participated in the inaugural session.
